On to today’s post! Christmas is approaching us quickly.

Omg you guys we are 22 days away from the big occasion. So, I thought it would be fun to share 3 DIY  (Do It Yourself)  gift ideas you could pull off for friends, family, or coworkers that won’t break the bank using mason jars to start of our Christmas series festivities!

Who doesn’t love a good cookie recipe am I right? So, the first DIY are some beautiful cookie jars. This is a recipe my family have used for YEARS and they are AMAZING.

Note: You can use these cookie jars for any cookie recipe. Chocolate chips cookies just happen to be a family staple.

Supplies:

Ribbon

Jar

Cookie recipe card

Dry Ingredients for Cookie dough:

1 Cup Granulated Sugar

1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar

3 Cups All Purpose Flour

1 Tsp Baking Soda

1 Tsp Salt

2 Pckgs. Semisweet chocolate chips (If you’re a super chocolate lover you can use chunks instead)

Instructions:

1. Clean and sterilize jars.

2. Place flour, sugar, salt, brown sugar, baking soda, and chocolate chips in the jar in layers.

4. Decorate top with Ribbon and added recipe card with instructions on how to prepare mix and wet ingredients needed.

Here’s another gift idea I just LOVE! All items can easily be found for cheap at your local Dollar Store or Target travel size sections.

Supplies:

1 Jar

1 Manicure set complete with nail file, cuticle pusher, and nail clippers,

1 Hand Sanitizer

1 Hand Cream

1 Pair of Gloves

Cute Note Card with seasons blessings

Instrusctions:

1. Neatly place the items in the Jar.

2. Place your seasons blessing note card and ribbon on the jar.

3.Body Butter

(Disclaimer: Please make sure to note if an individual has allergies prior to gifting them this item. I would leave this item for individuals you know personally.)

Nothing beats a delicious smelling and moisturizing body butter to combat the dry skin the unforgiving cold leaves us.

Supplies:

1 Jar Sterilized

Coconut oil

Jojoba oil

Coco Butter

Essential oil of choice

Hand held blender

Large Bowl

Ribbon

Note card with special message

Instructions:

1. Take one cup of raw coco butter, 1/2 cup coconut oil, and 1/2 cup jojoba oil to pan. Melt gently on medium high heat until it forms a liquid.

2. Transfer the contents to a bowl and place in fridge until contents are softly solidified.

3. Once solidified add 2 caps of essential oil of choice. I like the vanilla scented and orange essential oils.

4.Blend until you get a whipped consistency similar to a whipped meringue or whipped cream.

5. Add contents to jar. Decorate with ribbon and your seasons blessing card.

 

Tip: Customize with names of those receiving and have fun decorating jars with holiday stickers and themes.

Thanksgiving Prep List

On to Today’s Topic: Thanksgiving Prep 

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. You’re surrounded by your family and friends building memories and reminiscing on times from your past. There is amazing food, but most importantly you have the opportunity to reflect and be grateful for the things this year has bought you. Even if they weren’t all that great at least you can be grateful that you have gotten through the year! 

Josh and I had planned on going home for the holidays. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances have decided to just spend Thanksgiving with our babies and start our own traditions. 

So of course the organizer in me wanted to make sure that if we are going to start new traditions we have to do it right. Hence this Thanksgiving Prep List. 

If I happen to miss anything please feel free to comment below. Also, comment some things you like to enjoy with your families. Maybe I can incorporate them into our new tradition. 

Ok on to the list. 

1.Menu 

Thanksgiving would just be another day if we didn’t completely forget about calorie counting and healthy eating. Both of our families are from the south and they are PHENOMONAL cooks. So I decided we should pay tribute to the wonderful women in our lives and incorporate some of their most famous recipes. 

Our Meal will consist of: 

Roasted chicken (No more dry bird) 

Ham (Josh’s request) 

Mac N Cheese 

Corn Bread Stuffing (I’ll  using my grandmother’s recipe) 

Cranberry Sauce 

Greens 

Sweet potatoe soufflé 

Cranberry sauce 

Rolls and butter 

Peach Cobbler 

Yellow Cake with chocolate buttercream frosting 

Ice cream

Punch 

Sparkling Wine 

Lemon water 

2.Ambiance 

The women in our family aren’t just beautiful and amazing cooks. But, they also have a keen eye for decorating. 

So in tribute to them I will be hittinup some of our local shops for a few festive decorations. I’ll be doing place settings for the kids and adults. A beautiful centerpiece complete with candles. We must not forget using some of those beautiful DIY fall scents for the home. (Not to be our done bythe delicious aroma of our Thanksgiving feast!) 

3. Sports 

An American Thanksgiving consists of Family, friends, food, and FOOTBALL. 

So, my family will be watching the games after the Macy’s day parade. 

Game Line Up consists of: 

Bears VS Lions (Our family happens to be Bear fans) 

Redskins VS Cowboys (Our home team) 

Falcons VS Saints

4. Laughs 

Becuase we usually have laughs from family stories I didn’t think we would let the evening go out without some laughter. So we will be tuning into some family comedies to end the night in preparation for the Black Friday Rush.

Try It Thursday:Forgiveness

Today’s Topic: Forgiveness

I’m going to detour from my normal recipes/activities blogs that I normally do today. Because I am genuinely writing today’s blog to uplift and inspire someone who may be going through a very difficult time in their life.

My family and I are going through a heartbreaking situation. I’m honestly hurting heavily as I write this.

But in the midst of this storm I am choosing to forgive and will pick up my pieces to move forward. I’ve learned a long time ago that only YOU can control what your outlook is. If you think on negativity, bitterness, anger. That is what will consume you.

I have a beautiful family, my health, and you guys. I have so much to be thankful for. I’m counting what some may consider small blessings as if I have won the World Cup. I know that time heals wounds, and forgiveness though it’s hard will be what will help me through this.

You attract what you are. So I choose to be happy, I choose to trust God, and I choose to believe that all things will work together for my good. I choose light.

So I forgive myself for allowing this situation to distract me from the goodness in my life. I forgive those who have bought about the trauma. I have to move on no matter how difficult this storm will be.

If you are hurting, discouraged, broken. I am begging you to find the light. Build on the hope of a better tomorrow. Fight for your happiness!

Organizing Series: What you need in your organization kit

Happy Tuesday my loves!

I hope your week is going well. We’re 1 day away from hump day and 3 days away from the weekend. Whoop whoop lol

We’re close to finishing the organization series you guys!  So I thought today’s topic should be all about what you should have in your organization kit.

Just like Dr’s have their kits, and mechanics have their tools. We organizers  have our kits too. It wouldn’t be fair to leave you guys with all the information and not tell you what you need to finish the job.

Let’s get started:

Bag or Box: You’ll want something large enough to house your measuring tape, label maker, permanent marker, snacks, water, checklist, camera, etc.

Permanent Marker: You’ll want to have a permanent marker to label your boxes so you know where things are to go once you’ve taken them out of the space.

Label Maker: Pretty self explanatory. But you will want to have a label maker so that you can quickly label your storage boxes, and bins. Labels are super helpful when using containers that aren’t transparent.

Measuring Tape: Measuring tape is always good to have when deciding on the size of organization systems, drawers, bins, etc. that you’ll want to add to your space. I can’t tell you how many people buy the containers atorage systems and it is either too big or too small for the space!

Camera: You want to have a camera (you could also use your phone) to take pictures of things that you’re going to get rid of so you can have them remembered. You also want to have a camera to take before and after photos of your space so you can think of how you’d like to redesign the space!

Water: We want to stay hydrated so that we can keep going. Having water on hand prevents you from needing to stop. Organizing  can  become overwhelming and tiring. But it’s so worth it.

Snacks: Same reason as having water. You want to be able to get energized quickly so that you can keep the pace to organizing your space. (Didn’t mean to rhyme, but hey. Lol)

Gloves: You’ll want to have gloves when working in spaces you know you haven’t touched in awhile. Especially if there is dust, and cob webs. Thank me later.

Trash bags: You’ll always want to have trash bags on hand to get rid of the junk and trash your space has acquired. Again, it’s all about keeping up the pace.

Hand Sanitizer: In case you have something super gross you come in contact with. I don’t have to tell you children and animals can find some pretty clever ways to hide their messes.

Cleaning supplies:  You want to have cleaners, paper towels, dusters, micro fiber towels, etc. on hand to sanitize the space when you’ve finished decluttering. It’s always easier to work as you go so that you don’t have to keep revisiting the same spaces over and over again.

Checklist: You want to have your checklist ready so that you can mark off things you’ve completed. It helps you keep track of your time and to know what task you should complete next.

Tools: From my experience you never know when you’ll need to put something together or take something apart. So a universal screwdriver set and pliers are always a good thing to have on hand.

Batteries: For when you find that lost remote. Lol

Scissors: To cut the tape and whatever else that needs to be cut loose.

Music: Some of you can skip this step if you work best in silence. But music encourages a lot of people to stay motivated when completing tough tasks.

Notepad and pen: To keep track of measurements for the space. Note the things that have been set aside for donation (tax purposes). Things to be sold, and things that are to go to specific people.

Mini First Aid Kit: Accidents happen. It’s always better to be safe and prepared.

Anything else you think you may need, feel free to add it to this kit. This is my ultimate tool kit.  Because once again less is more.

Our Part for our Veterans!!!!

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. To all of my readers hugs and if you like what you see comment, like, share, and follow for future content.

First and for most Happy Veterans Day to all the vets out there. I know so many amazing vets and truly understand the sacrifices of leaving their families, risking their lives, losing limbs, and lets not even touch on their mental well being. All for the freedom of the American people. They deserve all of the honor and acknowledgment in the WORLD!

So if any of my readers are vets or currently serving in our military I salute you, I pray for you and your families, and I pray especially hard for you if you’ve lost a member on the line of duty. Hugs your way.

Today’s post is actually inspired by my love for veterans. So many risk everything for this country. I have friends and family through out the military who go on tours for months and years on end. Most, are away from their families missing important milestones just for our freedom.

To Britt, Marques, Nigel, Terrell and Granpa Jimmy (RIP), grand daddy,Ralph Michelle, Jaliena, Jasmine, Natalie, Hope, and everyone else I have the pleasure of knowing personally. From my family and from the bottom of our hearts thank you for your courage, for your sacrifices, for your struggle, and for your service. I love you guys so much.

(Would love to post you all’s photos but I don’t have permission. So know, your beautiful faces are forever ingrained in my heart.)

I also, have met extraordinary people by volunteering. Stories so unreal and so powerful. It hurts my soul to even imagine and the lack of recognition they receive is horrifying.

So, I did a little research on ways we can support our troops, our veterans, and the families of fallen soldiers. Because thank you just isn’t enough. If you’re interested in ways we can show true thankfulness and support for our amazing hero’s keep reading.

There are over 21 million veterans in this country and over 2 million active duty military personel. Some may receive benefits, but there are many individuals who struggle while waiting on benefits to come through for their families once disabled or discharged. A trying time especially for low ranking officials who’s families depended on their service to provide for them.

The following link leads to charities that help provide assistance for individuals while waiting to hear if they will receive benefits. In my opinion they all deserve to take care of their families and deserve benefits but alas we don’t live in a perfect world.

Vietnam Veterans of America

One of my favorite charities as both of my grandfathers served in the Vietnam war, not only accept monetary donations but furniture, clothing, and shoes for those vets who have fallen on hard times.

Volunteer: 

Another, MAJOR way we can support our veterans is by volunteering! Google locations in your area that support our veterans so that you and your family can be a blessing to our vets by showing up and doing YOUR part.

Care Packages: 

An awesome way to show your support for our veterans and troops alike would be by providing care packages!

There’s no better way to support our men and women in arms than by giving a sweet care package.

Call your local Veterans Affairs Office to see what is acceptable to package and send off to our troops and vets. Build a team in your neighborhood, school, church, or community centers.

Set up a team to advertise that you are accepting donations for care packages. Team up with your local stores and see if they will allow you to post your drop off locations for items needed. Another team can accept and collect donations (provide reciepts so that people can claim their donations on their taxes win/win). Another team to build the packages, and the final team to transport the packages to be sent off.

My family is currently preparing to complete care packages within our local church for this coming winter with things like gloves, hats, quarters, non-perishable items, and toiletries to drop off to our local office so that they can be dispersed to those vets in need that are in our community.

Tip: Anyone willing to do this I am offering my coupon manual for free so that you and your team can purchase items at more affordable rates by using coupons. If you don’t already know how.

Family Fun Night: Fall Treats

Happy Friday my beautiful readers!

I hope you all had an amazing week and for those of us who had a challenging week a well deserved weekend is upon us!

So, I figure why not make a few fall treats with my babies and enjoy them while watching some Fall favorites on Netflix.

Pumpkin Bread

You guys hubby bought home some AMAZING pumpkin muffins the other day. Everyone loved them so much I decided to make a bread version so we can enjoy it for brunch tomorrow morning.

I found this amazing recipe on simplyrecipe.com and tailored it to my family’s taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups (200g) flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 cup (240 ml) pumpkin purée* (I used canned pumpkin from Aldi’s)
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 4 ounces (1 stick, 112 g) butter, melted (can sub 1/2 cup light olive oil)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

In place of molasses and 1 cup sugar substitute for 1 1/4 cup Dark brown sugar.

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Pre grease loaf pan.  I used a butter flavored nonstick cooking spray from Aldis. (No loaf pan no problem you can substitute for a brownie pan as I did. Still comes out delicious.)

2. In large bowl combine all dry ingredients listed above. (Flour, all spice, cinnamon, sugar, salt, baking soda, and ground ginger.) Once combined make a well in the center of the dry mix to prepare for the wet ingridents.

3. In separate bowl beat butter and sugar until creamed together. Add eggs one at a time folding them into mixture. (I find doing this adds a softer texture than the original recipe.)  Add vanilla, pumpkin purée, and water. Stirring until blended.

4.Add wet ingredients to the dry and fold together until all ingredients are well combined.

5.Add mixture into pregreased pan. Bake 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

6. Let cool before slicing.

Optional : Top with cream cheese glaze: Softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar (or more) depending on consistency, 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 tablespoon butter melted. 1/2 Teaspoon orange Extract (Optional)

Combine all ingredients until smooth. Add on top of bread. Adjusting until you achieve desired consistency.

Serve. Makes 8-12 slices or 2 loaves

Candy Apples/ Caramel Apples

From my nannying days. I had the recipe in my email but the published website I got them from is no longer available. But, I did want to give them credit.

Ingredients:

  • 6 small red apples, 6 small green apples (any variety. We’re using Honeycrisp) 
  • 12 lollipop or popsicle sticks
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • Caramels or Caramel sauce (I’m using a brand from Aldi’s)
  • Heavy cream
  • Chopped nuts (Optional)
  • Equipment: candy thermometer

*Caution: Mixtures will be HOT and can cause serious burns. Handle with care, and if allowing children to chip in I suggest only allowing them to pat dry, insert sticks, and add nuts to apples once you’ve handled the candy mixture.

1. In pot add sugar, corn syrup, and water into large sauce pot. Stirring occasionally until contents reach a temp of 300 degrees F. With the candy thermometer.

2. Quick wash apples in boiling water and 1 tbsp. of white vinegar to remove debris and wax so candy can stick. Dry apples. Add sticks in top center of apples to prepare for dipping into mixture. Line on parchment paper.

3.Once sugar mixture meets required temp. Remove from heat and add a few drops of food coloring until it reaches desired color.

4. Quickly dip and coat apples in sugar mixture.  Let excess mixture drop off. Place on parchment paper until solidified.

*Store in fridge. Good for 3-5 days.

1. Add caramels or caramel sauce to sauce pan on medium heat. Allow caramels to melt and then add splash of milk. Add more if needed.

2. Coat apples with caramel mixture. Top with chopped nuts. (Optional)

3. Allow to dry before consuming.

Store in fridge for 3-5 days.

Well in order to have a fully balanced life we need to be able to flex our minds to prevent stress from taking over causing depression and anxiety (I’ve been a victim of both.) We also want to stretch prior to any workout to improve flexibility and prevent injury!

I don’t know why I haven’t put two and two together to maximize the benefits of both. I mean there is always yoga and Pilates. However, I still have research to do in regards to both forms of workouts due to personal beliefs. (If you guys engage in these activities and have done your research on both the physical and spiritual benefits please comment below as I would love to hear your insight.)

So, in the mean time I just put on some meditation music and followed some stretching routines from YouTube.

You guys when I tell you my body feels amazing and my mind is so relaxed!

Just so you guys can understand how good I feel I’m going to tell you all that I literally had maybe 4 hours of non-interrupted sleep last night thanks to a crying/clingy Jessye being sick. Caleb had literally trashed the house as always. Last night the boy poured a brand new box of baking soda ALL over my floor. (See pictures below.)

 

So this morning I definitely needed a little pick me up in order to get through the cleaning I have to do, and work I need to complete.

The backstory: I’ve really wanted to work on my flexibility that I had as a teen, not only to help with workouts but, because I want to get back to feeling GOOD about myself. I have had 3 babies in the past 5 years, two back to back pregnancies and gained over 60 lbs in the process! I have been losing weight but I just want to get back to feeling like myself as I’m sure some of you can relate.

So, flexibility is on the list of losing weight and toning. Of course keeping my mind in check is the #1 priority during this process. Therefore, meditation/prayer is a must!

Let’s turn our attention to the benefits of stretching shall we.

Out if the 9 benefits the 2 I have found most beneficial for me are:

•Relief of tension headaches. I don’t have to tell you guys how headaches increase with toddlers running around. Lol

•Improves posture. My posture has definitely taken a turn for the worse since pregnancy. Little fact: The weight of the baby pulling on your pelvis causes strain on the back muscles causing your posture to be affected.

I didn’t act on the opportunity of the little time I had between having Caleb and Jessye. I had a c-section with Caleb and by the time I felt like I was ready to get back to losing weight I found out I was pregnant with Jessye.
